A very fine resin black sculpture from Egypt and made there, it is not an ancient piece but modern. Isis could be represented several ways one as an attractive woman with her body wrapped in wings and the other as a human headed bird as shown in this piece. Isis was the archetypal Egyptian wife and mother, she was the wife to Osiris and mother to Horus.
She also was the symbolic mother of the Pharaoh. I have also listed this as Hathor because with out the symbol on her head it could be either, however both were Mother goddesses. Her symbol is also the seat or throne. Like her sister Hathor she is represented with the cow horns and moon crown.
Sometimes she is known as the Isis-cow, mother to the Apis bull and the great white sow of Heliopolis. She may originally have been a Delta goddess and is undoubtedly one of the oldest worshiped goddesses in Ancient Egypt. She has a lovely weight and looks very mysterious with candles going.
I have only ever had two of these large Isis's and this is the last one. Bought in the late 1990's in Egypt. A lovely heavy piece for your Egyptian themed room.
